This year Panasonic launched a number of high-definition televisions with a plasma display panel known as Neo PDP. Most of the HD televisions with this panel are really expansive. However Panasonic has also offered a less expansive series of plasma televisions with this plasma panel, known as the TC-PS1 series. In the 46 inches segment Panasonic has offered the Panasonic TC-P46S1.

Looks and Design

The new Panasonic TC-P46S1 has the looks and designs like the older HDTV models. The Panasonic TC-P46S1’s design also includes the very popular hidden speakers.

As far as the looks are concerned, the TV looks really smart with its glossy black color for the entire frame. The buttons on the frame nicely blend in and appear to be a part of the design.

Remote

The Panasonic TC-P46S1 has a remote similar to the old Panasonic HDTV models. The buttons on the remote have a nice feel and their size, shape and color is also good. It is a point to be noted though that none of the buttons on the remote is illuminated.

Black Level

The black level performance offered by the Panasonic TC-P46S1 is almost equal to and in some cases even better than some of the best plasma televisions released by the company last year. The detailing of shadows is as good as the Sony plasmas and far better than the ones offered by Samsung.

Color Accuracy

The color accuracy offered by the Panasonic TC-P46S1 is pretty ordinary. It is not as better than the previous plasma models from Panasonic.

Video Processing

The Panasonic TC-P46S1 offers a good video processing performance for both 1080i and 1080p videos. Also the plasma televisions performed okay with the standard definition video.

Connectivity options

The Panasonic TC-P46S1 has HDMI, S-VIDEO slots as well as a SD card slot among other connectivity options. The HDMI connectivity options allow it to be used as a PC monitor.

THX Mode

The Panasonic TC-P46S1 also has a THX mode which notches up the overall quality of the picture.

Verdict

All things said and done the Panasonic TC-P46S1 comes up trumps in almost all the categories. The price is affordable and the features adorable. Buying it is the right decision.
